I read recently that Jules Verne kept abreast of all the latest scientific journals just to up his odds on getting something right. Or could it be somebody else entirely? When it became possible to earn a very good living in advertising by exercising this capability, lyric poetry was left to untalented screwballs who had to shriek for attention and compete by eccentricity.
Pohl revised the original novel in with tbe material and more contemporary references. But I don’t think this constitutes a “prediction” of the Wii.
The style is dense or compact if you will and much is packed into each paragraph. Yes, the Best of C. Charles, you had it absolutely right. It is then that he learns, to his dismay, about the rank human misery his civilization creates to fuel its survival.

As far as I can tell we only have Kathy’s word on it. I adore this book. Merchats of the products contain addictive substances designed to make consumers dependent on them.
It deals satirically with a hyper-developed consumerismseen through the eyes of an advertising executive.
The world it depicts resembles the future Earth of the film Blade Runner perhaps even more accurately and acutely than Philip K. Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring is usually credited with sparking the modern environmental movement; but I think this book, with its warning that our present path of orgiastic consumption may not be environmentally sustainable let alone desirablemight have helped plant some of the movement’s seeds.
Refresh and try again. That’s true of much tue Pohl’s work, he was an underrated master. A Novel of Gateway But by the time Mitch has finished, they will be queuing to get on board the spaceships.
